The museum as a learning location

The rock’n’popmuseum is a much-loved destination for school classes, students and other groups. As a top-notch extracurricular learning location, the museum offers a broad range of material that can complement the curriculum of teachers all across the spectrum of various school subjects.

The rock’n’popmuseum also offers various materials to help prepare visitors for their visit to the museum – from an extensive lesson plan series to day trips.

Lesson plan series for the subject of music

The extensive lesson plan series incorporates a visit to the museum within the overall scope of its set of materials. The series encompasses tours through the exhibition, homework for the lesson preparing students for their museum visit and homework for the museum visit itself. Topically, the materials are centered on the history of popular music as seen from a musicological perspective. The material is available at three different levels: for grades 7 and 8, for grades 9 and 10, and at the upperclassman level. The material is available in german only.

Material for everyone and every subject

This short version of the lesson plans provides teachers with quick material for a museum visit within the framework of a day trip. It also encompasses a brief introduction to the exhibition as well as homework to accompany the museum visit. This homework emphasizes a societal and musical perspective and is tailored to the contents of the exhibition. Cross-disciplinary, the material is easy to implement in any lesson plan and offers both teachers and students the freedom to independently analyze the contents of the exhibition while still providing them with a general guided framework. The material is available in german only.

Senior Citizens' Special

Popular music has not only existed since the discovery of rock ‘n roll – and this is something the rock'n'popmuseum exhibition clearly demonstrates. The exhibition brings visitors face to face with memories – the hit they first danced to with their husband or wife, the very first vinyl that started their record collection. The memorabilia in the collection brings Marlene Dietrich, Lale Anderson and Elvis back to life once again.

Every second Wednesday of the month, the rock’n’popmuseum invites everyone over 60 to a special guided tour navigating a century’s worth of music history, allowing time at the end for silence in commemoration of a bygone era over coffee and cake.

The cost is € 9.50 per person. The fee includes entrance to the museum, the guided tour and coffee and cake. Please register in advance by calling +49 (0) 2562 8148-0.

The tour begins at 3pm.

KIDS' Special

rock'n'popKIDS
Kids rock the museum! Once every month, the rock’n’popmuseum invites children between 4 and 10 years of age to come explore the museum – their way! During this time, kids set off with a music educator on an adventurous journey of discovery through the permanent exhibition and make music in small groups. The experience includes drumming, clapping, singing and interesting puzzles. In the meantime, parents are freed up to take a look at the museum for themselves. Cost: 16 EUR for the entire family or 4 EUR per child. We request that you register ahead of time by calling us at +49 (0) 2562-8148-0. Upon request, rock'n'popKIDS is also available on weekdays for larger groups of children (such as day care, kindergarden and elementary school classes).

So you’re having a birthday and want to throw a great party for your friends? Come visit the rock’n’popmuseum! You and your guests will be able to take an adventurous journey of discovery and enjoy a colorful, music-filled afternoon at the museum.
