We, the research project “Music Objects of Popular Culture”, are taking a new approach to Germany's pop history (East and West) from the perspective of the objects. The period we are focusing on is from 1945 to the present day, and we are interested in questions of design, use and experience as they relate to musical objects.
We are looking for photos and films of rehearsal rooms, old living rooms and children's or teenagers' rooms including music equipment or home studios, record collections, but also music-related diaries and letters; postcards from the first tour or even equipment riders for gigs. But we are also especially interested in your memories.
In addition, we are looking for some special instruments and would be very happy about loans, or photos for our publications: Electric guitars from the GDR, Dr.Böhm home organs, PPG synthesisers, BOSS HM-2 effect pedals, Dynachord DN 15 amplifiers, equipment by Schaller and Framus, Access Virus A synthesisers, EMT 140, 240 and 250 (reverberators), microphones (MD 421, Neumann U47, Schoeps). P.S.: If you think your music object might be of interest to us, please get in touch!
